the other day at work i was getting something from my boss's desk (like a phone or something) and he has all these post-its up on the little divider wall between his work area and mine. we face each other. so yeah. anyway, these post-its are all like doctors phone numbers and important stuff. one happened to catch my eye. all it said was "nate and leah." i dont really know how to feel about my boss having a post-it on his desk with my friends names on them. i'm telling myself it's so that he can have something to ask about when there's awkward silences.
also, i really miss doing darkroom work. not epperson darkroom work. but real darkroom work. i miss it times one thousand.
the best way to start a conversation goes a little something like..."NOTHING goes better with bagpipes than a good irish fiddle." |

so, a year ago i was all freaking out about selling my house and working 2 jobs and hating being such a responsible adult and hardly being able to wait to have that all removed and move home and just rest.
and since i've been home, all i've been able to think about is how nice it would be to have a place where i could cook what i wanted when i wanted and walk around naked and shower with the door open and listen to loud music and maybe even dance to it. and also just wanting to have a home that's mine and not someone else's. so someone might say "oh, yeah, that's erin's house," instead of, "that's where erin's living right now."
but then i come home and that bike chain that i've been avoiding for over a month now? yeah, my dad fixed it. and i hadn't even told him about it. he fixed it and he made it better than it was before. and that's something that i like, too. being around people that will do stuff, just because.
so yeah. who knows.

if someone is to, say, own a bookstore... one with an overwhelmingly large number of books... it might be a nice idea to arrange them in some fashion. by genre, perhaps. or even (gasp!) alphabetically? cause it makes me think a lot less of where i live when i have to walk down aisle after aisle and only see self help books and books about cats. i know there's more to it than that. i just dont know where. oh, card catalog. where are you when i need you...
also... when did hypercolor shirts make a comeback...
i got this rad new shirt the other day. wore it today. got home. realized that the armpits had completely changed color. i mean COMPLETELY. but when i washed it it went back to normal. i dont like it. dont like it one bit. maybe i have defective armpits.

as the maid of honor, it was on my itenerary to make a toast last night (it was wedged in there between pictures and dancing with each of the groomsmen...) at allison and bruce's wedding. which, i did. which, in fact, i managed to squeeze in a little something about unicorns. but in a classy way. and not in a "i've had way too much to drink already" way.
definitely not.

the next 6 days are going to be insane. in. sane. and all this weather is giving me a headache.
but...
i have a new bra to get me through. i bought it for the wedding (thought that maybe, for once in my life, i could be involved in a social function and not be completely trashy).
i still need to fix my bike.
and jesus christ, i still need to take some pictures. would somebody please drag my ass out to do that. please. |

all those bills and things? yeah, pay em.
quit avoiding everyone.

a very important lesson i learned last weekend: i am not a dog person.
what should've been a nice relaxing weekend turned rather quickly into a stressful and emotional one. luckily, it ended well with two of the best packages i've ever ever gotten in the mail...
a tutu, made by sienna. a cd (of the mountain goats, rare finds variety), made by patrick.
the wedding (not mine) is in 10 days. the end of poor city? probably never. my favorite part of pretty much every day? chicago. |

so yeah. my bike chain decided to fly off the other day as i was pedaling. suprisingly, i didn't fly off with it. but the handlebar got me in the boob, the seat rammed itself against my right ass cheek a few dozen times, and the pedals made a nice stew of my shins. it was good times all around.

the only good thing about stepping foot in my hometown, snooty, over-priced, "we only carry one title by each author" bookstore? they honored a gift certificate i found that i had received as a high school graduation present nearly 10 years ago.

i don't know if you remember, but i have about 2 pounds of decomposed potatos in me.

leah's bold statement at pf changs, along with our cracked-out, high-strung, politically charged antics got us free soup last night!!
it's been an unusually entertaining week, politically. for the first time ever, my boss and i are on the same team. rooting alongside jimmy carter and (though i hate to even say it) dubya.
it's an awkward and beautiful thing, bipartisanship. |

and, of course, as soon as i begin to let my guard down. as soon as i say out loud "oh, he's not that bad." as soon as i start to think of him as a lesser evil, glenn beck (1/3 of the REAL axis of evil: beck, limbaugh, and hannity) spends the better part of today's 3 hour radio broadcast tearing apart sarah vowell.
sarah fucking vowell. one of the funniest and smartest writers at the moment, not to mention a staple on npr's this american life.
i guess that'll teach me to stop saying things out loud. |

so...i'm curious how these "humans" are gonna spend their time when they don't have a planet to live on and destroy.
and i'm not so sure that the "first worst, second best" thing applies to this one.
but hey. what do i know anyway.

i'm tagging along with brent today at the robotics lab... building some kind of something-or-other for his memes. i think. it's entertaining. there's this super computer across the hall... controls like the entire campus or something. it's like a house. but, you know. not.
